The first ever venture into European Competition for the North London Based Club saw the experience end at the hands of Swedish team, the Carlstadt Crusaders in the Semi Final of the European Federation (EFAF) Cup.

The Blitz Offense took to the field first and after a promising start with a 22 yard gain on the first play by Running Back Gareth Dauley; the offense then stalled and were forced to punt. This would prove to be the story of the day as a dominating Carlstadt defense were too much to handle for the young Blitz Offense.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Blitz proved up to the challenge ending the first quarter with a shut out of the Carlstadt Offense.

The 2nd quarter would however, prove to be the undoing of the Blitz as the Carlstadt Offense, led by American import Quarterback Rob Curley, who would account for all 4 Carlstadt touchdowns on the day, proceeded to score on the next 3 possessions to leave the half time score at 19-0 to the Swedes.

With the Crusaders Offense first on the field in the 2nd half, they showed their dominance by putting together a long drive that took up most of the 3rd quarter making the score to 27-0.

While the Blitz Offense showed brief glimpses of success, they were kept out of the end zone, it was the Defense that stepped up and showed their determination not allowing the Swedes any further scores.

After the game Head Coach, Mark Moss said “Carlstadt were the better team on the day, however we are very proud of what we have accomplished in our first time competing in Europe”, he went on to add, “we are all disappointed with the result, but have learned a number of lessons and we will only get better as a result”. The focus now returns to the domestic campaign with an away game to the Coventry Jets on Sat, June 12th.
